The Spiders Web book

4th Jul 2021

The definitive book about Basil Davenports v-twin G.N. cyclecar specials: Spiders I & II and the BHD - together with just some of the characters and machines that became caught in the web over the past 100 years.   Davenport, in the grubby and diminutive Spider, ruled the hill-climbing roost throughout the 1920s, the early 30s and then in the 1950s - even beating Mays in his giant supercharged Vauxhall-Villiers and Caracciola in the Works Mercedes SSK.

Then the original Spider I was re-assembled and, with the always competitive Spider II, they both still frequently gain Best in Class today.

At last -  THE SPIDERS WEB  - the full story

Spider - the battered looking old G.N. cyclecar that dominated the hill-climbs and sprints throughout the 1920s and 1930s.

Spider II - the same old broom, having gained new heads and handles over the years, that’s still showing them the way today.

Carefully created over a period of six years with the invaluable help of owners, drivers and supporters, past and present, together with many experts, photographers, cognoscenti and enthusiasts.

This new book was launched at the VSCC Shelsley meeting.
