PENNINE PICNIC WEEKENDER

pg

10th Jun 2025

We are just about over the disappointment of having to return early from France with a big end threatening to put its leg out of bed, & are now looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the weekend of July 19th.

The plan of action is as follows;

FRIDAY  - arrive anytime & go to the pub. The Butchers Arms is a five minute walk from us and serves good ale and food.

SATURDAY MORNING – bacon butties then off on the tour ! It being a Nash tour it will involve not one, but two historic hillclimbs; Millmoor Road, Meltham (used between 1906 & 1920) and Holme Moss (used between 1920 & 1924). Set off when you want, take as long as you want, go up and down the hills as often as you want. Map will be supplied including suggested spots for a coffee & a sticky bun, ice cream & picnic supplies.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON – picnic. I understand tradition has it that you BYO cucumber sandwiches & we will supply liquid refreshment (most forms) and also cakes (if I haven’t eaten them all).

SATURDAY NIGHT – well, don’t be going home yet ‘cause we will be having a bit of a party like, with beer, curry & we might even persuade the Prez to get his squeeze box out for a bit of a sing along. There might be some silly games ….it’s a while since we had a game of wibble wobble……!

SUNDAY – more swine sarnies & then you can all bugger off at your leisure. Unless you fancy hanging round & maybe going to the pub for lunch or staying until…..

MONDAY !- the third best car club in the world (Huddersfield Motor club) are having a test day at Blyton. It’s about £25 to join HMC & £120 per car (as many drivers as you like per car). You can use your Nash/modern or owt else. It‘ll be the best track day you have done – open pit lane, very relaxed, not many cars there, drive your wheels off.

BORING BITS

Our address can be found for logged in members below.

Trailers ; do NOT drive through the village – it is very narrow & you might get stuck. We have sorted some secure trailer parking on the edge of the village – please contact me for deats.

Please let me know if you are planning to camp. Tents – VIP pitches (level, in the garden, near the bog) are selling out fast. Yoof/peasant pitches (not quite level, in the field, near the stream) have plenty availability. Wild wees are allowed, nay positively encouraged, but facilities will be provided for dropping the kids off at the pool..

Camping - gypsy wagons – see my comments above re driving through the village.

If, like me, you prefer a comfy bed there is plenty accommodation available in the Holmfirth area. Give me a shout if you would like any suggestions. At the time of writing Uppergate Farm in the village has a self catering cottage sleeping 8. Highly recommended & walking distance form ours and the pub.

Could you please let us know ASAP a) if you are attending, b) roughly when you plan to arrive & c) if you are camping, what in/under, so the catering corps (wife & kids) & parking attendant (me) can plan accordingly.

Oh, & please let us know if you have any dietary requirements & if you want to do the track day.

I think that is about all for now,

Richard, Louise, Alice, Mary & Maddy.
