Anzani camshaft hardening

26th Apr 2020

I have stripped my Anzani to fit a new block and noticed the hardening on some of the cams wearing through, after 4000 miles. The cam surface can also be marked with a file, unlike my knackered original ones, which have a "glass hard" surface. It has been suggested that these new camshafts may be "plasma nitrided" instead of traditional case hardening and the underlying metal too soft. Any thoughts from the qualified engineers/Anzani owners out there?  please see my posting in workshop chatter? Simon
