February 24th update.
Sinsheim-Nürburgring-Spa Raid planning is well underway. The response has been fantastic with approx. 46 cars on the Raid with 33 Racing (if I understood your expressions of interest correctly – see list below)! We are encouraging both Raiders and Racers, however they are not mutually exclusive.
We would appreciate to get more race cars involved as the costs in both financial and time terms maybe prohibitive, so we are encouraging some to join just the Spa race weekend; the more that enter, the more the price will come down. My goal is 40 cars on the Spa grid! It can be done leaving early Thursday and returning Sunday….so join in or spread the word!
You can regard the Raid as a ‘four-parter’.
- Sinsheim hotel/dinner and Museum
- Nürburgring hotel/dinner
- Spa hotel and dinner
- Spa race entry
You will be able to sign up for any part or all 4 parts. Costs will reflect this.
Hotels
We have block-booked two hotels in Sinsheim, one in Nürburgring, and one in Spa, with 60 double rooms with breakfast in each location. Rooms will be allocated on a first come first served basis, provided your deposit is received in the club bank account! Brian will be the adjudicator of fact!
The fact that we have 60 rooms in the Radisson Blu Balmoral Hotel in Spa during the Spa 6-Hour meeting is a coup! Having everyone together there will be fabulous. See details and weblinks below.
Nordschleife News
When we started planning this Raid around the Spa race and the Sinsheim Museum, we quickly added in a trip to the Nordschleife. We hoped that ‘Hermann the German’ who owns the Sinsheim Museum could work his magic at the Nordschleife and get permission for pre-war cars to go around it. However as hard as he and Klaus-Peter Mutschler (Nash club member based in Germany) have tried, it has come to nought.
The consensus was to still go there, not least because it’s en route to Spa, but also so that people can view it in its daily mode of mad punters going around in moderns, while staying at the fabulous racing themed Dorint Hotel located on the start line of the current Nürburgring GP circuit.
There is also a very good 1 ½ hour ‘Backstage Tour of the Nürburgring’ available for groups of 25 people at approximately £12 per person.

Of course, some individuals may choose to hire a car for a session and do their own lap of the circuit…www.nring.info
It’s only a two-to-three-hour drive to Spa on the Thursday, so there is plenty of time to do whatever you want.
Race News
Costs are down dramatically from £850 to nearer £670; this is because, we have our own Frazer Nash Car Club 40-minute race and about 33 cars. So GNs, chain-drive and post-war Nashes are all welcome. It will be an unforgettable experience at the most legendary circuit in the world.
The more race cars we have the lower the cost will finally be.
The organisers have also agreed for us to be scrutineered and to qualify on Friday, with the race on Saturday. Perfect for competitors and spectators, with the Classic Spa 6-hour race on Saturday evening. A must-see spectacle.
Racers are reminded that you will need full racewear that has a hologram affixed: socks, leggings, vest, balaclava, gloves, boots and race suit. While you may not need this in the UK at present, it’s an inevitability. Thus, it’s an investment in the future!
Race Spectators
Tickets will be provided for all Raiders to have full access to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit for the duration of the weekend. We are trying to get a specific area for everyone to park in.
Raid Book
For those who attended the Boulogne Raid, a fantastically helpful raid book was produced and, with Rachel’s help, we will produce another for this Raid. Get your mug shots and car shots ready please!
Spares and Race Gear Truck
Chris Chilcotti (yes, the very same legend we all know and love) has offered his nearly new Sprinter van, made in the Fatherland, for Raiders and Racers alike. Mr Parsons will put his usual spares pack together and is even threatening to build up a bevel box to bring. Meanwhile we will come up with a plan for said van to haul helmets and race suits for racers. This will obviously save a lot of space for Raiders/Racers.
Regalia
A logo is being designed. This will be uploaded to the regalia website for you all to order whatever you want. More things that the organisers can’t be blamed for!
The Raid Trip Schedule
We appreciate you will form your own groups of like-minded travel Raiders. You can work out your preferred ferry/Chunnel route, hotels, restaurants and must stop and visit landmarks. Your only goal is to get to Sinsheim by Monday 21st night. Of course, you may choose to join at the Nürburgring on Wednesday 23rd. How you get there is up to you, we intend to keep well out of this to avoid blame and cock-ups!
Costs
The total cost of 6 nights at 3 hotels, 3 raid dinners, The Sinsheim Museum tour with lunch is approximately £350 per person (based on two people sharing a room). Not bad for great hotels!
The 40-minute race is currently costed at £670 for 33 cars. If we can get 40 cars the cost would drop to £500! Please, encourage others to join us.
All prices are based on today’s exchange rate and therefore may vary by the time the final fee is paid.
Deposits
See the Raid Entry form attached to this email, but in essence we need £350 deposit for the Raid element and £375 for the Race. NOW. Our intention is that you will only have to pay for any extras when you check out of your hotel. We will book all hotel rooms for you.
The final deposit will be payable in June. There will be a contingency built in for the unknowns!
